Albania - Save the Blue Heart of Europe

Project in partnership with Patagonia

Publication : The Adventure Journal (United States)

In the heart of Albania, which remained shut down from the rest of the world from the end of the Second World War to the beginning of the 1990's, lies one of the last free flowing rivers in Europe, the Vjosa. Like many other rivers in the rest of Albania and other countries in the Balkans, it is being threatened by a vast project of dam construction, totally disproportionate regarding the actual needs and ignoring the opposition of local populations. Initiated by Patagonia and the organization Riverwatch, the 'Save the Blue Heart of Europe' campaign is striving to raise consciousness about this important environmental issue.
